The Atomic Structure of the Universe

Let's make one thing clear from the start. Any philosophy or religion which suggests that you should be satisfied with anything less than the absolute best life has to offer, is not a philosophy or religion; IT IS A PROBLEM.

The best life has to offer includes health, strength, vitality, peace, power, joy, wisdom, prosperity and love. If these things do not exist in your life NOW, then YOU HAVE A PROBLEM!

The purpose of this book is not to solve your problems for you. We make no such claims. Rather, we intend to show you the nature of the problem, so that you may resolve them yourself. Later you will see that there was no problem, only misunderstanding.

Simply speaking, you have some wrong ideas in your head. These wrong ideas have been the starting point of many incorrect thought processes. And these very thoughts, of your own creation, have kept you bound and enslaved. They are your only limitations preventing you from living a grand and glorious life.

Like a delicate and complex piece of machinery which can be rendered useless by a grain of sand, there is a tiny obstacle in your mind that will bring your life to a standstill. But once this speck is removed, the complicated mechanism is restored to perfect working order, yielding perfect results.

If you are already living a life of perfect joy, peace, health, wisdom, prosperity, etcetera, there is no reason for you to read this book. But if you are not 100% satisfied with your life as it is, your level of understanding, and the direction in which you are heading, take a resolute stand and begin your conquest of the higher life--HERE AND NOW!

Like preparing an old and cluttered castle for suitable living quarters, we find worthless junk and garbage cluttered everywhere, but also under the dust we find ancient treasures of inestimable value. The first step is to throw out the useless trash forever and then make greatest use of the priceless treasures found there.

In preparing one's self to enter the higher life, we must first dispose of the mental garbage, the false beliefs. This is the speck of dust that has disrupted the orderly function of the machinery of life.

Your mind, your thoughts, your reasoning processes and beliefs must be founded upon TRUTH!

The development of the individual life is a natural process and will unfold perfectly once natural order has been restored. To insure that the process is started properly we must go all the way back to the basics. Then we must proceed in an orderly fashion to the highest truths and the secrets of obtaining the higher life.

Contained in the following pages are some basic teachings of modern science, in addition to some fundamental concepts of advanced thinkers. It is hoped that these teachings will bring you a greater understanding of the universe and its laws. Later instruction of how to apply this knowledge results in a life lived in harmony with Universal Law, or in essence, the highest, richest, fullest life one is capable of living.

What better place to start our conquest of the higher life than right where we are. Let's start right here in the material world, the physical plane, the outer world we know as the universe.

So here in our first lesson we must ask the question, "How may we account for the vast universe of matter in which we live?"

Scientists of the molecular age have informed us there are some 109 elements present in our universe. All things physical are made of these elements, either singularly or in combination. Webster's Dictionary defines ELEMENT as:

"any substance that can not be separated into different substances except through nuclear disintegration; all matter is composed of such substances."

ANYTHING that can be perceived with the physical senses is composed of one or more of these 109 basic "building blocks." The material of which these fundamental building blocks are composed is essentially the same; ATOMS. Not to sound like a textbook, but for a clear line of communication let us give a few definitions as they are found in the dictionary.

ATOM is defined as:
"The unitary particles of which all matter is formed, regarded as an aggregate of nucleons and electrons variously organized within and around a central nucleus."
NUCLEUS is defined as:
"The central part of the atom, the fundamental particles of which are proton (Positive) and neutron (Neutral)."
PROTON is defined as;
"One of the elementary particles in the nucleus of the atom, having a unitary positive charge."
ELECTRON is defined as:
"Any of the non-nuclear negatively charged particles that form a part of all atoms, each carrying a negative charge."

The number of electrons circulating or vibrating around a nucleus is equal to the number of positive charges on the nucleus. Each element has its own atomic number corresponding with the number of protons revolving around the nucleus.

SUMMING ALL THIS UP we find that all matter is composed of atoms and the only difference between the different elements is the electron configuration. The electron configuration is determined by the number of electron rings revolving or vibrating around the nucleus. If the electron configuration is altered, the element is changed into something entirely different.

In the preceding brief explanation we have the basic foundation for the construction of matter, protons, electrons and neutrons which in the right combinations form atoms of the basic elements contained in all physical matter.

What does this scientific jargon have to do with the person seeking to master life? Nothing really, if we view it strictly from a physical stand point. But perhaps a deeper penetration into the nature of matter can yield knowledge applicable to other areas of life. Perhaps in physical substance there is locked subtle secrets that once understood will give us a key to understanding more complicated matters; such as ourselves.

Let us keep in mind that the conception of the atomic world is an abstraction because no one has ever seen an atom. The favorite model is the miniature solar system, but no one has actually seen one and no one ever will, due to problems of physics too complicated to discuss here. So with the existing knowledge of modern science and our own imagination let us probe deeper into the atomic world. Upon closer examination we find that the nucleus is a center of attraction; naught but an invisible point in space. A whirling vortex around which revolves a positively charged proton. This forms the core of the atom, around which revolves or vibrates at great distance a negatively charged electron. All of this is but a tiny ELECTRICAL UNIT estimated by some scientists to be 1/100th of 1/1,000,000th of an inch in diameter. As minute as the atom may seem, the electron is 50,000 times smaller. What is even more startling is that the distance between the electron and the nucleus is so large in comparison to its size that it could be compared to the distance between earth and sun.

Some scientists have estimated that the speed at which the electron whizzes through space is approximately 660,000,000 MPH. Also that the electron can change position of orbit 40,000 times per second. Matter, as we know it, is not solid or stable; its particles are constantly changing and hurtling through space at speeds that approach the speed of light. Differences of density such as that found in wood as compared to lead are caused by differing degrees of attractive forces between electron and nucleus.

This brings us to the point where we must conclude that if everything in the physical universe is composed of 100 or so basic elements, and these elements are all made of the same thing; i.e., atomic particles traveling at tremendous rates of speed, then the substance of which these particles are composed of must be the basic and fundamental substance of which all things are composed of.

The important question here is "what are these particles composed of?" Most scientists are in agreement that the electron is an infinitesimally minute charge of energy.

The most recent discoveries of modern physics has brought the scientific world face to face with the ancient occultists who promulgated the existence of a primal substance from which ALL things are made.
ALL MATTER IS COMPOSED OF ENERGY IN THE FORM OF ATOMS VIBRATING AT DIFFERENT RATES.

Webster's Dictionary defines matter as what all material things are made of: "Whatever occupies space and is perceptible to the senses in any way."

In modern physics, matter and energy are regarded as equivalents, mutually convertible according to Einstein's equation. E=MC2.

(Energy is equal to the mass times the speed of light squared 186,564 miles per sec. x 186,564 miles per sec.)

So here you have it in a nut shell: Everything in the universe is composed of energy; matter and energy are synonymous. Matter is condensed electrical units.

The highest teachings of modern science inform us that there is one primal substance from which all physical things are made, i.e., energy. It further states in the kinetic theory that the minute particles of all matter (atoms) are in constant motion and the temperature of a substance is dependent on the velocity of this motion; increased motion being accompanied by increased temperature. For example, when one boils water, the heat sets the molecules of water into faster motion. As the molecules reach a certain speed or rate of vibration they are changed into a different form of matter; a gas, and in the process, energy is released. This is one of the principles of the steam engine.

This may seem dry and technical to some, but a basic understanding of the nature of matter will prove invaluable in later lessons. It will also serve as a starting point from which we shall reason forward to other conclusions. For once we understand a few basic facts concerning physical substance there are other conclusions that cannot be denied. If we are to accept certain facts of our physical universe, then there are others which of necessity must be accepted as truth.

For instance, the LAW OF CONSERVATION OF ENERGY states that energy can never be created or destroyed, only changed from one form to another. If energy can never be created, it must be assumed that it has always been in existence. If energy can never be destroyed, it must be assumed that energy is indestructible. Being indestructible, it must be seen as eternal; energy always has been and it always will be. You do not destroy the energy that comprises water when you boil it. It is merely converted from one form to another.

Not only is the primal energy eternal and indestructible, it is in constant motion, therefore, constant change. The entire universe is undergoing a continuous transformation of energy. Change is the law of nature. The law of change was best stated by William W. Atkinson in 1911 in "The Mastery of Being." He stated:

"All nature, and all the universe is in a constant state of flux. Everything changing its shape, form or activities from the moment of its creation. Everything is in constant motion from the atoms to suns, from universe to electrons. Nothing remains the same for two consecutive moments...nothing stands still. Everything moves, everything changes, everything flows, everything passes, everything rises, everything falls. Everything has its reappearance in new form. Nature experiences a million millions of births each second of time, in the same time she experiences a million millions of deaths. YET NATURE EXISTS EVER BIRTHLESS AND EVER DEATHLESS."

This ceaseless transformation of energy is happening all about you as well as within you. Mentally and physically you are constantly changing. It may be helpful to consider yourself as a creative process rather than a stable entity. One of the purposes of the lessons is to direct the course of these changes from random happenings to progressive growth. THE ONLY WAY TO ENTER THE HIGHEST LIFE YOU ARE CAPABLE OF LIVING IS TO EVOLVE INTO IT.

Before going into the next lesson let's take a final review of exactly what is taking place in the external world of matter.

In our universe of ceaseless change, the process of life and growth and death and decay is continually in motion. Within us and without us the sub-atomic elements obey unerringly the law of their being, cohering for a time only to be broken apart again in a never ending chain of being and becoming. The phenomenon of growth is merely the attracting of the proper elements from the invisible ethers to form specific types of matter. The process of decay is the breaking down of the compounds thus formed to the basic elements such as hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, calcium, etcetera. The re-absorption of these basic elements by the roots of plants or digestive system of animals furnish the growing organism with stimulation and nutrients for developing growth. In time, each organism dies and its compounds are broken down and released in a never ending cycle. Thusly, the amount of energy in the universe remains forever constant and the primal energy of the electron is never destroyed, only changed into different molecular structures.

From the doctrines of modern science we find that all the beautiful and varied phenomenon that we perceive with our physical senses are the result of positive and negative charged particles of energy attracting, cohering, condensing and vibrating at different rates of speed. The universe and all that it contains can be considered as a seething mass of electro-atomic energy condensed to a state of "form" in relation to certain internal and external forces.

Particles of energy
in molecular embrace
Every atom
is in its proper place
Organic decay
sets them all free
In the ceaseless
transformation of energy.
The molecular structure
becomes rearranged
But the harmony and balance
is always maintained.
A gentle flowing,
a continuous growing,
A complex scheme,
a molecular stream
That keeps going,
going...
Always changing, rearranging,
always looks the same.
Vibrating, gyrating,
forming the physical plane.
In essence it can never change,
it has to rearrange.
It happens every day.

carcass drying,
organic decay.
Flowers growing,
energy flowing
forever
on its way.
Constantly changing,
rearranging,
Always looks the same.
Comes together in molecular
embrace,
Creating the physical plane.

We now have the basic knowledge of the physical universe from which to reason in our quest for truth and the higher life.

As level after level of our story unfolds, we find certain conclusions forced upon us by the laws of reason. It is these truths which we will use as a foundation of our lives. With the confidence and faith that the truth never fails, lets us continue our pursuit of the higher life.
